A Summarize of our (old) GDD´s

As discussed in the previous devlog, we decided to past our previous posts on the community board to the format of devlogs.

And as we discussed it, we ended up deciding to summarize our past GDD´s post in one extent Devlog.  So, these are the recaps of each GGD.

GDD 1

Original pubish date: Nov 04, 2024.

So, this was our first GGD, well, sort of. We had other types of design documents, like a One-Page pitch, and a Ten Pager, but our first official and most complete document was this one, our Game Design Document (aka GDD).

In this first version of our document, it wasn’t clear how would be the flow of our story yet (which we realized later that it was one of the most important elements to consolidate our project), but we were clear about how we wanted the flow of the game to be, the mechanics implemented, the progression system, and the end of our game.

Some of the mechanical elements in this version that stood out the most were:

  • The Character Creator: for personalized gender and presentation of the player avatar.
  • The history progression: in the nights, via text messages, the player would recite news of word of their family, this kind of event would happen after reaching a certain level.
  • NPC: Some of they are pacific and other not, the player can talk to some other NPC's cis or trans, and some other NPCs can make a projectile which represent a street comment (like miss gender)
  • Statistics: there were three main statistics;
    • Energía (Energy) to limit the number of action the player can do in game day, without have to eat our go-to rest (call the day).
    • Euforia/Disforia (Euphoria/Dysphoria) if the player loses a minigame, receives a bad comment in the street (miss gender), they star having side effects similar to those of having a low energy (walking slow), and they can past out if this statist goes to 0. But if the player wins mini-games and evades street comments, they would be in a normal stated with no side effects.
    • Confianza (Confidence) it was a re-name for level progress, to not call it directly that way, the motive of this it was to metaphorize the process of transitioning as a transgender person, but not like a lineal or standardize process with strict steps to follow, but more like do it your own way, in your own time, progress is progress event if by the system standards is a strict lose or win, is always a step, a little win.
  • Items: the player can buy some items for personalizing their avatar, recover energy, our have some buffs or side effects, like armor, buff in energy levels, increase passing, etc.
  • Places: a list of places the player can go.
  • Camera: a description of the camera position and composition, isometric for exteriors and perspective for interiors (except for room).
  • Final event: When the player reaches a certain confidence level, they avatar returns home and reconcile with their family in the way of a puzzle talk minigame.

GDD 2

Original pubish date: Nov 25, 2024,

For the second version of our document, we decide to make some esthetic changes, for making the GGD more appealing and concept more connected with our idea of the game art. Here we make more specification for some of our game elements, like the level of confidence requested to activate some events, the activities in each building interior, the intent game flow, specifications of the statistics, items, etc.

Some of the elements that stood out the most in this version were:

  • A most clear list of locations in the game, with descriptions of what the player can do inside, and their purpose in the game flow has a whole.
  • A define level of confidence for the first family text messages in night (level 5).
  • A define level of confidence for the activated the event "back home" to see the avatar family (level 15), and making this optional to end the game.
  • Three different ways of ending the game: access to HRT, finish the procedure to change name and gender, and making the mission "back home".
  • A define game flow with screen by screen explanation.
  • A define description of the NPC interaction (receptionists).
  • A define description of player abilities: movement, interact, punch back (return in a ping pong way the street comments to their sender).
  • Specifications of what the player can change of the characters: color of skin, eyes, hair, form of eyebrows, hair, eyes, and add facial features.
  • Specifications of which items do what, divided in magic (alter statistics, making buff of energy or euphoria, or function like an armor), and collectibles (clothing, accessories, or consumable energizers).

GDD 2.3

Original pubish date: Jun 27, 2025.

Link to our document.

For our next actualization, we change and cut many things of our game design. This because we began to reconsider that, due to the time we have to complete this project, we needed to make a shortened version of our game, without losing the essence of it. So we decide to apply the concept of Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to design a version of our game with the essential to preserve the intended experience, sacrificing everything that was an extra or could not be as viable due to time and work force limits.

These are some of the cut and changes:

  • [Addition] An Index in the first pages.
  • [Cut] Inventory system.
  • [Cut] The ability to punch back
  • [Cut] Character creator.
  • [Addition] Character selector: the player can choose one of three characters, which are a trans man, a trans woman and a non-binary person.
  • [Cut] Salving system.
  • [Cut] Mall and mini-games work themed.
  • [Cut] Economy system.
  • [Cut] Achievements system.
  • [Cut] Shops: the places in the mall and street where the player can buy items and collectibles.
  • [Cut] Friendly NPC's.
  • [Addition] Micro games Win and Lose conditions: a simple system of hits and misses, with a limit of three misses or over time games.
  • [Addition] curtains in between micro games.

GDD 2.5

Original pubish date: Mar 4, 2025

Link to our document.

We design this GDD document is to reflect the exact state of our game, so we can explain what the game currently is, more than an attract idea of what we wanted the game to be. At the end of this document, we added a section named Programación (programming), with some very specific ideas of elements which are needed to implement.

These are some of the highlights on this document:

  • [Specifications] New game core loop: in which is described step-by-step the intended flow of actions and directions the player would have in the desire gameplay.
  • [Specifications] Macro of micro games core loop: the logic of the sequence of the mini-games in each institution, being a loop of micro games. The player will need to win 10 of these to win the whole institution game. After that, they will recite a certificated of the process (achievement).
  • [Specifications] Micro of micro games core loop: the general sequence of each micro game, enter the game, press the command, receive feet back.
  • [Updated] UI Mock Up: with the new limitation of places to access and actions.
  • [Addition] Sprites: Micro game list of sprites for the feet back work.
  • [Addition] 2D Character design: the 2D concepts of avatars trans fem, trans masc and non-binary. And the NPC's of secretary, doctor, and people in the street. These are used has idle, and in micro game art representation.
  • [Updated] List of micro games: a total of 5 micro games in Registro Civil and 5 micro games in Clinica.
  • [Addition] UI assets.
  • [Addition] Concept Art and 3D Models.

You can check more details (in Spanish) in the original GDD document.

Well, now that we have summarized the design process of 7 moths in a row, we like to make the note that all this game design ideas and changes made us polish our design senses, and acquire ways to rethink our project without losing the main original idea, the essence.

We like to invite all of you to follow our project, more devlog will be made in a short future with more updates.
